A Decade of Resilience, Truth, and Survival

“When we formally registered the Grassroots Researchers Association (GRA) on October 5, 2016, we were driven by a singular, burning conviction: that the stories and struggles of grassroots communities across Nigeria deserved to be told accurately, scientifically, and with deep empathy. Looking back today on October 5, 2026, as we celebrate GRA’s 10th Anniversary, I am filled with immense gratitude for how far this collective vision has brought us. Our journey began in the crucible of northeastern Nigeria, born from a need to document the silent truths of conflict. From those early days, our mission evolved into a profound calling—stepping into complex emergencies to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the most vulnerable.

For me, the heartbeat of the past decade has been our unwavering commitment to supporting survivors of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV). We refused to let these survivors become mere statistics; instead, we deployed rigorous, evidence-based grassroots research and technical case management to restore their dignity, provide psychological healing, and fight for their justice. As a grassroots researcher myself, I have always believed that sustainable development and peace cannot be manufactured from afar—they must be built on empirical truth gathered directly from the ground. Over these past 10 years, GRA has proven that local content hubs are not just participants in humanitarian action, but essential leaders of it. As we celebrate this historic milestone, my deepest thanks go to our dedicated teams, our resilient partners, and above all, the courageous survivors and communities who have trusted us to walk alongside them. Together, we have built a legacy of justice and impact, and together, we step boldly into the next decade.”
