From the field, climate change isn’t data — it’s failed harvests and vanishing rains. Smallholder farmers feel it first. We work alongside them, building local resilience because survival happens at the roots, not in policy papers. The ground is shifting; we’re shifting with it.
In northeast Nigeria, terror and banditry have turned villages into battlegrounds. We stand with communities caught between Boko Haram, ISWAP, and armed bandits — fighting for justice, security, and the right to live without fear. Peace must be local to be real.
We assess what works — and what doesn’t — when government programs hit the ground. Too often, policies are designed in offices, not villages. We measure real impact at the community level, because accountability starts where people live.
Young people need jobs, not promises. Women need healing, not just handouts. We create pathways to employment for youth and safe spaces for women to rebuild — because development without dignity is just statistics. Growth starts with people.

Grassroots Researchers Association (GRA) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to evidence-based humanitarian response, conflict transformation, localization, and human rights protection across Northern Nigeria and the Middle Belt. Founded in Maiduguri in 2009 and registered with the CAC in 2016 (CAC/IT/NO 91131), GRA bridges the gap between frontline community needs and high-level policy frameworks.
Led by local experts and youth leaders who have risen directly from the communities they serve—including Executive Director Friday Bitrus—GRA operates across 8 high-priority states, driving the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus.
