Newsletter vol 9 issue 4

This newsletter outlines the fourth-quarter activities and achievements of the Grassroots Researchers Association (GRA) and its partners from October to December 2025 (Volume 9, Issue 4), focusing on survivor recovery, institutional advocacy, and livelihood empowerment.

Key highlights include:

  • High-Level Advocacy on CRSV: Strategic engagements in October 2025, including a specialised training for Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) personnel and a Multi-Stakeholders Dialogue, addressed the critical shortage of certified SARC medical doctors and secured high-level commitments for institutional reform.

  • MHPSS and Safe Spaces: A dedicated MHPSS Officer was onboarded on October 3rd, 2025. Utilizing 9 safe spaces, the initiative reached 148 Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) survivors (98% of its quarterly target) through counselling and therapy, backed by a 10-day radio campaign during the 16 Days of Activism.

  • Global Survivors Fund (GSF) & Capacity Building: GRA collaborated with GSF to conduct public speaking and presentation training for survivors attending the Kinshasa hearings, alongside hosting community lessons learned and BSF close-out workshops.

  • Artisan Tailoring Skills Training: Launched in November 2025, a three-month vocational training program equipped 30 CRSV survivors across the BAY states with essential garment construction and microenterprise skills.

  • GREEE & LESE Livelihood Projects: In partnership with the Dr. Denis Mukwege Foundation, the GREES project trained 60 survivors in Potiskum in smart home gardening and container farming, while the LESE project equipped 30 survivors in Gashua with small-scale goat production capabilities.
